800 blood donations needed per day to provide enough for local hospitals
Blood continues to be in high demand and short supply across the region, but according to The Blood Connection, if everyone who is able to donate blood did so on a regular basis, which is every two months, there would never be a blood shortage. Approximately 800 blood donations are needed per day to provide for local hospitals. The Blood Connection will be at Union Medical Center, at 322 West South Street, today from 10 a.m. until noon. They will also take part in Saturday’s free Community Health Fair in the parking lot of the new Greater Union Church building at 323 North Duncan Bypass. The event is planned from 10-1, but according to The Blood Connection’s website, they will have the bloodmobile on location starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m. A third blood drive will be held Friday, May 6, from 2-6 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot.
