Heather Brigmon wins costume contest; Pregnancy Center wins favorite window

Buffalo kicked off the Christmas season Sunday afternoon with its traditional first-in-the-county Christmas parade. Four others are scheduled, starting with the Union Christmas parade this Friday at 6. Jonesville’s parade will be Saturday at 3. Carlisle’s Christmas parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 10, at 2 p.m., and Lockhart caps off the season on Sunday, December 11, at 3. The Main Street Merchants kicked off the holiday season the week prior to Thanksgiving with the Main Street Holiday Kickoff. WBCU News spoke with one of the organizers, Rebecca Rochester, recently, and she had this to say about this year’s event:

Heather Brigmon was the overall winner of the costume contest and won $50 in Unionville Big Bucks, which merchants on Main accepted just like cash. Marissa Rakestraw, Dustin Rakestraw, and Ellen Brigmon won their categories and won $20 in Unionville Big Bucks. The Union County Pregnancy Center won the vote for favorite window or storefront. They had an interactive three-window display, featuring Cindy Lou Who and the Grinch, who waved at those passing by. Children who visited the center were given drawings of the Grinch with no mouth. They were asked to write what they would do to get the Grinch to smile. Those completed pictures were then placed on the window as part of the display.
