Teachers invited to come out for raffles
The Union County Sheriff’s Office invites families out this Saturday for their second annual Be Cool for School Community Backpack Giveaway. It will be held in the Greater Union Church parking lot at 323 North Duncan Bypass Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The sheriff’s office partnered with Greater Union Church, Union Public Safety Department, and the Jonesville Police Department to present the giveaway for kids from kindergarten through 12th grade.
In addition to free backpacks filled with school supplies that will be given to children at the event until they run out, the kids will get a free hot dog meal and a free Kona Ice. They will have a bouncy slide there. Police, EMS, and fire vehicles will on display. They will have youth football and cheerleading signups, after-school signups, and lots of kid-friendly vendors. FoodShare Union County will be on hand with information about their program and some things to give away. They will have giveaways going on for students and for teachers.
The sheriff’s office asked teachers to come out, show their district ID, let the sheriff’s office know what school they work at, and then the teachers will be entered into the teacher raffles. A number of donations from individuals, businesses, churches, and organizations have come in over the past few weeks to help make this event a success.
