7-2 vote came in March following major decline in COVID cases
Another big story early in the year occurred in March, when the Union County Board of School Trustees voted to resume school five days a week beginning April 19, following spring break. Case numbers had been falling after the big spike last winter. Up to that point, students had been attending on a variety of schedules—first an A-B cohort schedule, going in-person twice a week and online three times a week, and then going in-person Monday through Thursday and having an e-learning day on Friday. The vote was 7-2 at the time, with Mark Ivey and Manning Jeter opposed.
