Karen Petty named UCHS principal
There will be a few administrator changes coming next school year. According to a release by the Union County School District, the Union County School Board voted unanimously to name Mrs. Karen Petty as principal of Union County High School for the 2023-2024 school year during their April 24th meeting. Mrs. Petty has served the past four years as an assistant principal at UCHS. Prior to coming home to UCHS Mrs. Petty served as an assistant principal at Gable Middle School in Spartanburg District 6. Mrs. Petty has 26 years of experience in the field of education and taught for many years at Sims Middle School before going into administration.
Adult Education will be moving back underneath Union County Schools for the 2023-2024 school year. For the past several years, Spartanburg Community College has been the authorizing entity of Adult Education. In preparation for Adult Education returning to Union County Schools, Dr. Latunya Means has been named Director of Alternative Programs. In this role Dr. Means will oversee the operations of Adult Education, the Achievement Academy, and the Union County Schools Virtual Academy. Dr. Means has previously served as principal of Sims Middle School and is currently the director of the Union County Virtual Academy.
Mrs. Jennifer Stepp will be moving from the director of the Achievement Academy to the role of Special Services Administrator for the district and will be serving students housed at both Buffalo Elementary and Foster Park Elementary.
