First reading of ordinance passed 3-2; questions remain
The Union County Airport Commission has a meeting scheduled tonight at 6 p.m. at the airport. At last month’s Union County Council meeting, an ordinance dealing with leasing airport property to a limited fixed base operator passed its first reading on a 3-2 vote. Council member David Sinclair said he wanted more information on what was involved in the ordinance, saying that some of the Airport Commission members were questioning what the ordinance would cover. Some of the council members indicated an interest in attending the commission meeting tonight.
According to then-Supervisor Frank Hart, the Airport Commission had voted to recommend to the county that the airport be leased to a commercial fixed base operator, Phoenix Air. Airport Manager Ronnie Wade said the group wants to do commercial flying at the airport and wants to build a couple of new hangars there. WBCU News will cover the meeting and bring you details from the meeting in tomorrow’s newscast.
