Ten other scholarships available to high school seniors
Area high school seniors have a chance to apply for a scholarship from The Ladies of Iris, Inc., a women’s service organization. The scholarship is open to all interested high school seniors in Union, Spartanburg, and Cherokee counties. For an application to be considered complete, it must be signed and accompanied by an essay and an official transcript authorized by guidance. The essay is up to 300 words on volunteerism. The official transcript can be mailed to PO Box 114, Union, SC 29379. It must be received no later than March 17. The application and essay are due in by March 1. You can get a copy of the application from the guidance office.
The group raises money for the scholarships through its events, such as the upcoming Individuals of Distinction Tea, which is scheduled for this Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Veterans Lodge building at Foster Park. Contact Penny Jeter for tickets at 762-7527. They also hold a debutante ball each year. You can also donate directly to the scholarship program by sending a check to PO Box 114, Union, SC 29379. They have a link to their Paypal on a couple of the older posts on their Facebook page, as well. Search for Iris, Incorporated of Upstate SC.
