Two-year-old was struck in the chest by a bullet in the incident
An arrest has been made in the 2021 shooting of a two-year-old. As WBCU News reported last September, officers with the Union Public Safety Department were dispatched to Union Medical Center for a two-year-old gunshot victim. They learned the incident occurred at Lakeview Garden Apartments, at 720 Lakeside Drive in the City of Union. There were reportedly two adults at the residence at the time of the shooting. The toddler was flown to a hospital in Greenville County for further treatment. Sgt. David Lee spoke to the child’s father, who stated he was at work at Dollar General Distribution when he was told that his son had been shot by Danny Ray Davis. Lee spoke with the child’s mother, who was at the apartment when her son was shot by Davis. She drove the child to the hospital.
24-year-old Danny Ray Davis, Jr. has been arrested in connection with the shooting and charged with unlawful conduct towards a child. His arrest warrant states that on August 31, 2021, Davis “did place the two-year-old at unreasonable risk of harm affecting the child’s life, physical or mental health, or safety. Danny Ray Davis, Jr., did possess a firearm while at 720 Lakeside Drive. Said firearm was discharged inside the apartment striking the two-year-old in the chest.” Davis was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Union County Detention Center. In addition to the charge of unlawful conduct toward a child, Davis also faces charges of first-degree burglary, attempted armed robbery, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Bond on the charges was denied. Details on the other charges are not yet available.
