SAFE Homes-Rape Crisis Coalition serves Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union counties
SAFE Homes-Rape Crisis Coalition is hosting the first of what they hope will be an annual event titled 1VoiceHubCity—Art for Change. The event is set for this evening starting at 5:30 p.m. The event is presented by AFL and co-hosted by RJ Rockers Brewing Company. The event will be at 226-A West Main Street in Spartanburg. SAFE Homes believes that every person, group, and company has a role to play in addressing domestic and sexual violence. At the event, artists will share their creative voices and stories with the community through various artistic mediums. They hope that will foster dialogue about the issues, help eliminate barriers, find solutions, and unite those attending as an allied force to change cultural and social norms that promote domestic and sexual violence.
SAFE Homes notes that anyone can experience domestic or sexual violence, regardless of employment, education level, race or ethnic background, religion, marital status, physical ability, age, or sexual orientation. South Carolina traditionally has been in the top 10 for most domestic abuse and sexual violence, but last year, the state came in 11th. Per capita, South Carolina has jumped back up to 6th in the nation for the number of homicides committed by an intimate.
