Bank was founded during the Great Depression
Not all business excitement in Union County is due to new businesses. Arthur State Bank has just announced that it is celebrating its 90th anniversary. The bank was founded in Union in 1933, established during the Great Depression at a time when many banks failed and communities were left without access to financial services. Its founder, Major General Harry M. Arthur, originally owned a chain of department stores before he saw a need for banks in the Upstate community. He went to his father, a retired banker, and asked him to come out of retirement to be the secretary and treasurer of the bank, and Harry Arthur would be the chairman and president. As the bank moved through the generations, it grew and added services to serve its customers better. In the late 1980s, Arthur State Bank expanded into larger markets such as Spartanburg, Greenville, Columbia, and Rock Hill.
With 18 branches throughout South Carolina, the bank has become a cornerstone of the communities it serves despite challenging economic conditions. Over the years, the bank has grown and expanded while maintaining its core values of integrity, customer service, and community involvement. Arthur State Bank prides itself on its lasting relationships with its customers and employees by offering safe, world-class financial services that help the customers and the bank prosper. These financial services include simple, quick mortgage applications, trust and wealth management, business loans, and more.
"Being a family-owned community bank means we care more about our customers and our reputation than some larger banks," said Arthur State Bank Chairman Carlisle Oxner, III. "We're very close to the communities we serve, and I think those communities depend on us. Our customers know that when they need financial help, we will be there for them. In 90 years, we have learned how to care for our customers. I want the bank to continue helping these communities and customers for another 90 years."
The bank will celebrate its 90th anniversary throughout the year. Customers can visit any bank branch or the website at arthurstatebank.com to learn more about events and special offers.
