Juror Patrick Faile will offer watercolor workshop
The Union County Arts Council held its annual Juried Art Show last night at USC Union. The artwork will remain on display on the second floor of USC Union’s Main Building until early November for the public to see during normal university hours. Nine awards were presented to artists at the show, with cash prizes furnished by local businesses and individuals. Bennie Giles with the Union County Arts Council supplied WBCU News with this year’s list of winners.
Anna Kay Singley took home $250 courtesy of Frank Hart Allstate Insurance for her piece, “Serenity”. Anthony Hedrick won $250 from Union Family Pharmacy for “The New Dress”. Todd Baxter earned the Nancy Wilburn Award, a $300 prize for his “PJs and Puppets”. Carol Funke (fun kee) won the $300 Toccoa Switzer Award for “Kaleidoscope of Log Cabin”. Susan Hopps won the Mrs. Barbara Harter Rippy Award and $400 for “Awesome Possum”. The Mrs. W.J. Whitener Award went to Shannon Patrick for “Blessed Morning.” Patrick won $400. The Timken Tyger River Plant presented $500 to Susan Hopps for “Lacecap Bees”. Debra Kelly won the Founders Federal Credit Union Award of $500 for “Crossing the Causeway”. The big prize of the evening, the Arthur State Bank Award, went to Union’s own Rebecca Lance for “Toby”. Lance earned $750. Lance also won the People’s Choice Award, which was voted on by the attendees. The Union County Arts Council supplied $100 to Lance for the prize.
Although a reception was not held this year because of COVID guidelines, the awards ceremony was well-attended by a number of local supporters of the Union County Arts Council. Several artists commented about how much the show has meant to them through the years and has encouraged them to continue to paint and enter shows.
Patrick Faile was the juror for the show this year. He will be conducting a Watercolor Workshop on Saturday, October 15, at the Union County Arts Council gallery on Main Street. The cost is $50 for members and $60 for non-members. For more information, call 429-2817 or email ucac29379@gmail.com.
