Hikes are offered each month
This Saturday, September 3rd, the Battle of Musgrove Mill State Historic Site will offer its monthly guided hike of the Battlefield Trail. The two-hour Ranger-led hike will cover the 1.5-mile Battlefield Trail, during which those attending will learn about why the battle was fought at Musgrove Mill, who participated, what occurred, and the importance of the battle to the Patriot cause. The Battle of Musgrove’s Mill occurred on August 19, 1780, and was a vital turning point in the Patriots’ fight for independence on the South Carolina backcountry.
Cost for the hike is $5 per person. Visitors are asked to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for hiking and to bring bottled water. Meet at the park’s visitor’s center between 9:45 and 10 a.m., as the hike will begin at 10. Space is limited, so they require reservations in advance. Call 864-938-0100 or email mgmillsp@scprt.com. You can also reserve and pay for your spot online by visiting reserve.southcarolinaparks.com/register and scrolling down to the listing for the Battle of Musgrove Mill ranger-guided battlefield hike.
