Battle of Musgrove Mill State Historic Site Plans Battlefield Hike

Daniel Prince

Monthly hike costs $10 per person

The Battle of Musgrove Mill State Historic Site is sponsoring a ranger-guided hike of the Blackstock Battlefield this Saturday, September 17, from 10-noon. The hike will commemorate the battle, which took place on November 20, 1780, when General Thomas Sumter gave the feared Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton his first defeat during the Revolutionary War. The hike will cover the events leading up to the battle, the commanders and soldiers from both sides involved in the battle, and the importance of the battle to the wider history of the Revolutionary War.

The hike will take place mostly off-trail over difficult and hilly terrain. Those attending are asked to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for hiking and to bring bottled water. Pets are not allowed on the hike. There are no facilities at the Blackstock Battlefield site, so plan accordingly.

You are asked to meet at 9:45 at the Blackstock Battlefield State Historic Site at 568 Monument Road in Enoree. Cost for the hike is $10 per person. Space is limited, so reservations are required. You can call 864-938-0100 or email mgmillsp@scprt.com. In addition, you can reserve your spot and pay online by visiting reserve.southcarolinaparks.com/register and scroll down to the Blackstock Battlefield Ranger Guided Hike.
