Battle of Musgrove Mill State Historic Site Plans Kids' Day Program

Daniel Prince

Reservations required by September 16

The Battle of Musgrove Mill State Historic Site has scheduled its monthly Kid’s Day program. With school back in session, the schedule moves back to Saturday.

Coming next Saturday, September 18, kids are invited to Musgrove Mill from 10 a.m. until noon. The program is designed for children ages 8-14. The kids will be taken on a one-hour, Ranger-guided hike of the one-mile British Encampment Trail. They will learn the history of the Battle of Musgrove Mill and the history of the South Carolina Backcountry. They will also learn about nature and trail safety. Following the hike, the kids will join the Patriot militia and learn how to make paper cartridges, drill with wooden muskets, and how to load a musket.

The price is $10 per child and is due upon arrival. Space will be limited, so reservations for the program are required. An adult chaperone will be required to remain on site during the program, as well. The registration deadline is Thursday, September 16, by 5 p.m. You can reserve a spot for your child by calling 864-938-0100 or emailing mgmillsp@scprt.com.

Meet at the park’s Visitors Center at 10 a.m. Bring bottled water, and wear appropriate shoes and clothing for hiking and the weather.
