School district holding an e-learning day today due to road conditions
Extremely low temperatures overnight last night refroze any water or ice remaining on the roadways after yesterday afternoon, creating dangerous black ice conditions that remain into this morning. With temperatures not expected to get above freezing until some time after 10 a.m., that meant that many who might ordinarily use a two-hour delay to escape icy conditions had to make other plans to keep motorists safe.
Union County Schools announced that all of their schools will have an e-learning day today. Employees will be allowed to work from home rather than risk driving in unsafe conditions. This is not a day off—students will have to complete assignments and attend live lessons as instructed by their teachers in order to be counted present and to get grades for their assignments. If you have questions, contact your child’s teacher. Having an e-learning day will keep the students from having to make up the day during a teacher workday or at the end of the year, as was the case prior to all students in the district receiving laptops in the past couple of years.
In other area school news, Union Christian Day School will be closed today. USC Union and USC Union at Laurens will be opening at noon today.
