Rep. Doug Gilliam and Melinda Butler were on the air Tuesday morning for the first of a series of political forums that WBCU News is hosting in the lead-up to primary election day on Tuesday, June 14. They are both Republican candidates running for SC House District 42, which serves all of Union County and a portion of Laurens County. In her opening statement, Butler said that just about everyone has similar core values, but the difference lies in how to address them:

Today, WBCU News will host the Democratic candidates for Union County Supervisor, Ben Ivey and Timika M. Wilson. On Thursday, Kevin Eckert, one of the Democratic candidates for US House District 5 will be in the studio, and on Friday, we will air a prerecorded interview with the other Democratic US House District 5 candidate, Evangeline Hundley.
Early voting in the primaries continues through Friday at the Union County Election Commission office on South Duncan Bypass in the old Union Chrysler building. The election will be held on Tuesday, June 14. Polls will open at 7 a.m. and stay open until 7 p.m. WBCU News will provide live election coverage that night to bring you the results as they come in.
