Rutherford will get right to work with special meeting scheduled Monday afternoon
Union County Council’s newest councilwoman will be officially sworn in Monday afternoon. The ceremony will be held in the courtroom at the Union County Courthouse Monday at 2 p.m. Supervisor Frank Hart will welcome everyone. Rev. Freddie Wicker, Jr., pastor of McBeth Baptist Church, will offer the opening prayer. Clerk of Court Melanie Lawson will administer the oath of office to Carolyn Rutherford, who was elected to the District 5 seat on Tuesday. After being sworn in, Rutherford will offer her remarks, followed by a closing prayer by Rev. Wicker. A reception will follow. Her first meeting will be held later that afternoon, as council will have a special called meeting Monday at 5 p.m. We’ll have details of the agenda in Monday’s news.
