Changes Coming to SNAP Benefits in SC

Daniel Prince

Emergency supplements will end at the end of January

Changes are coming to SNAP benefits in the state of South Carolina. The SC Department of Social Services announced that the SNAP emergency supplements will be coming to an end effective January 31. The supplements were put in place back in March 2020 in response to the pandemic, and they brought all SNAP-authorized households up to the maximum benefit allotment, based on household size. Starting February 1st, all SNAP households will go back to receiving their regular monthly benefit. Regular SNAP benefits will not change as a result of the emergency allotments ending. Starting January 3rd, SNAP recipients can view their regular monthly benefit amount and their emergency allotment amount online through the DSS benefits portal at dss.sc.gov. As of last month, more than 308,000 households are receiving SNAP benefits in South Carolina.
