Find out how Governor Gist's family, enslaved people, and freedmen families would have celebrated the holidays

Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site is preparing to host its annual Christmas at Rose Hill event. It is planned on Saturday, December 4, and Sunday, December 5, from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $7.50 per person, with children ages 5 and under free.

Rose Hill plans a Victorian-style Christmas. At the event, find out how Governor William H. Gist’s family, enslaved people, and later freedmen families celebrated the holidays on the plantation. Special tours of the Gist mansion will be offered. Visitors can enjoy drinks and sweets in the historic kitchen house and can craft some decorations to take home. See what a Civil War care package looked like and learn how to create your own, with help from the Greenville Ladies Aid Association. Tours will begin each day at 1 p.m. and run each half hour through 4 p.m.

For more information, call 427-5966, or email rosehill@scprt.com. Rose Hill is located at 2677 Sardis Road.
