Event features special tours, decorations, and Father Christmas
The Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site will once again offer their popular Christmas program, Christmas at Rose Hill. It will take place this Saturday and Sunday, December 3-4, from 1-4 p.m. each day. Tickets are $10 each for ages six and older, while ages five and under get in free. Tickets may be purchased in the kitchen at Rose Hill the day of your visit. Reservations are not required. Christmas at Rose Hill is a chance to experience a Victorian-style Christmas at the Rose Hill Plantation. Visitors will learn how Governor W.H. Gist’s family, enslaved people, and later freed families, experienced the holidays on the plantation.
The mansion will be decorated and open for special Christmas-themed tours Saturday and Sunday. Tours will begin on the front porch of the mansion on the half hour from 1:00PM to 3:30PM.
Father Christmas will make a special appearance on the park Sunday afternoon, so bring the family. Visitors can enjoy refreshments in the plantation kitchen. Warm your hands by the fire and craft your own decoration to take home with you. The mansion will remain decorated for the holiday season throughout the month of December.
If you can’t make it to the event but still want to visit, the park grounds are open daily from 9-6 year-round. The mansion is only available by guided tour, which are normally held Thursday through Monday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. Each Thursday at 1 p.m., a Voices of the Ancestors walking grounds tour will be held in place of a mansion tour.
Remember, the bridge over the Tyger River on Sardis Road is still closed, so you will need to come to Rose Hill via Highway 49. You can then take Bombing Range Road to Old Buncombe Road to Galilee Church Road back to Sardis Road.
