Annexation of KC Mart property, money for vehicles for Public Safety among items to discuss
Union City Council will have a busy evening tonight, as two public hearings and the regular monthly meeting is scheduled at Union City Hall. At 5:30 p.m., there will be a public hearing to solicit comments in connection with the benchmark report for redistricting. At 6, there will be a public hearing to solicit comments on the annexation of property located at 439 North Duncan Bypass, the KC Mart property. Following the public hearings, the regular city council meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Five city employees will be recognized for March work anniversaries, ranging from 5-25 years of service. Council will then hold the second reading of an ordinance to annex the property at 439 North Duncan Bypass into the city. In new business, council will hold first reading of an ordinance appropriating funds monies from the general fund. This will be to purchase three Chevy Tahoes for the Public Safety Department. There will also be a first reading of an ordinance to transfer current fiscal year monies within the City of Union. This will be to purchase 200 garbage cans from the city’s supplier. Money would be transferred from the general fund’s street department to the solid waste department.
In addition, three items are up for discussion and motion. The city is being asked to participate in USC Union’s annual Spring Fling event this year, scheduled for Wednesday, April 20. The council needs to fill one vacancy on the Board of Zoning Appeals for an expired term. The appointment is for a three-year term ending on December 31, 2024. Council will also discuss a sponsorship of the inaugural Butts & Boogie music and BBQ festival coming to the fairgrounds from April 5-9. After any announcements by the mayor and council and any public comments, the meeting will adjourn. The public is invited to attend.
