Public hearing on rezoning request is scheduled prior to regular meeting
Union City Council has a public hearing scheduled prior to its regular monthly meeting tonight. The hearing is set for 6 p.m. at Union City Hall at 101 Sharpe Avenue. The joint public hearing with the planning commission is to solicit public comments in connection to the proposed rezoning of property located at 410 North Duncan Bypass from A-5 shopping center to A-2 highway commercial. This is the Merchants Walk Shopping Center property owned by Bill Graham. He has requested the rezoning to allow for a broader list of permitted uses, including a potential future tattoo parlor. Tattoo parlors are not allowed under A-5 zoning but can be permitted by special exception under the A-2 zoning. The Board of Zoning Appeals would have to grant the parlor the special exception.
City Council’s regular monthly meeting will begin at 6:30. Four employees will be honored for August work anniversaries. Council will hold second and final reading on an ordinance to sell three city-owned properties to the highest bidders. They will also hold first reading of the ordinance to rezone the property at 410 North Duncan Bypass from A-5 shopping center to A-2 highway commercial.
Council also has three resolutions they will take up. The first deals with sewer project easement funds for MycoWorks. The second is for local matching funds for a sewer project application. The third deals with the Union-Jonesville regional project.
After that, there will be a brief time for public comment before the meeting adjourns.
