Computer Classes Scheduled at iCarolina Lab

Daniel Prince

April and May will be busy months at USC Union’s Palmetto College iCarolina Lab at the Union County Carnegie Library. If you are unfamiliar with the lab, Governor Henry McMaster made pandemic Emergency Education Relief funds available to the University of South Carolina to establish computer labs in underserved communities, providing access to high-quality equipment and high-speed internet. USC Union’s lab was the first of 8 to open in the state last year. It features 20 iMac computers, 20 MacBooks, and 20 iPads. The lab provides free use of these Apple products as well as free training and education to community members.

On Mondays in April and May, except for Memorial Day, you can come to the lab at the library and learn about the Apple operating system from 9-11 a.m. If you have an iPhone, they will provide training on how to use that, on Wednesday, April 5, from 4-6 p.m., or Friday, April 7, from 9-11 a.m. They will host an Introduction to iPad training on Wednesday, April 12, from 4-6 p.m., or Friday, April 14, from 9-11 a.m. They will hold an introduction to MacBook, Apple’s laptop, the following Wednesday, April 19, from 4-6 p.m., or Friday, April 21, from 9-11 a.m. Their final April training will be an introduction to iMac, Apple’s desktop computer, which will take place Wednesday, April 26, from 4-6 p.m., or Friday, April 28, from 9-11 a.m. On Wednesdays and Fridays in the month of May, they will offer training in several Apple applications, including Photos, GarageBand, iMovie for iPhone, and iMovie for iMac.
