Tucker had been absent from council meetings for over a year as health declined
The Community Mortuary has announced that Union County Council District 2 representative Ralph Tucker passed away. Tucker had been in declining health over the past two years or so, and he had not been able to attend council meetings in over a year. Tucker was first elected to Union County Council in 2015 in a special election following Frank Hart’s election as Union County Supervisor the previous November. Tucker defeated Ann Stevens and Steven Stone in the Democratic primary and runoff and did not face any Republican opposition for the seat in the special election. He was elected to a full term in 2016 and won reelection in 2020 before falling ill. Tucker was a supervisor for many years at Carlisle Finishing. His funeral service took place on Sunday at McBeth Baptist Church.
A special election will be needed to replace Tucker on council. The filing period will open at noon on Friday, April 14, and will close at noon on Friday, April 21. Party primaries, if needed, will be held on Tuesday, June 13, with the special election set for Tuesday, August 15. The winner will serve Tucker’s remaining term through 2024.
