Council sets budget workshop dates for April 19-20, May 5
Union County Council will hold its regular monthly meeting today at 5:30 p.m. in the Grand Jury Room of the courthouse at 210 West Main Street. The public is invited to attend, and the meeting will be streamed on the Frank Hart Union County Supervisor Facebook page.
Council will discuss the renovations on the Wells Fargo Bank building, where the Union County Sheriff’s Office will relocate, and the South State Bank building, where the non-judicial government offices currently in the courthouse will relocate. They will consider requests to fill vacant budgeted positions, as well as requests for capital funds. They will consider appointments to vacant positions on boards and commissions. They will then discuss jail renovations. They also will talk about the county website and branding.
After hearing any reports from elected officials, council will consider three ordinances. They will hold second reading on a lease agreement with MycoWorks. They will hold first reading in title only of the 2022-2023 Union County budget. Council will begin work on the budget next Tuesday and Wednesday, April 19-20, with a third workshop planned May 5, prior to the scheduled second reading of the budget during the regular monthly meeting on May 10. Public hearing and final reading of the budget ordinance will take place at the June 21 regular meeting. Council will also consider an ordinance dealing with the sale and conveyance of county-owned property to the Union-Laurens Commission on Higher Education. This is expected to be the City Park property.
Supervisor Frank Hart will give his report to council, followed by any committee reports. An executive session is planned to discuss two contractual matters, two economic development matters, and a personnel matter.
