Couple of County Renovation Projects Hit Snags

Daniel Prince

Wells Fargo renovation is on track to finish next month

According to the Supervisor’s Report submitted to Union County Council at last week’s regular meeting, an agreement has been signed with the Rotary Club to allow them to place aluminum can recycling trailers in some of the county’s recycling centers. They will begin this month with trailers at the Landfill and Jonesville sites. Based on collection rates, additional trailers could be placed at the airport, Santuc, Cross Keys, and Kelly Kelton sites in the future.

Grading is about 98% complete on the Midway Drive Extension-Rice Avenue Extension Connector Road. Not much work has been done since December. The soils engineer is looking for options to proceed. Slopes have been matted and seeded, but it is still too wet to move any dirt.

The Lockhart Boat Ramp project’s bid due date has been extended to late March due to having to modify the original construction plans. Permit approval to the modified plans is expected any day. Plan changes have a minimal effect on the original design.

The renovation of the old South State Bank building is ongoing. The report states that a few construction issues were discovered after demolition that require some changes in HVAC, electrical, walls, and ceilings. Change orders will have to be issued and approved.

The bid due date for the Chrysler Building roof replacement has been postponed, and the project may have to be rebid after issues were brought up in the pre-bid meeting. The budget may also have to be revisited, as well.

In some good news for renovation, the Wells Fargo building renovation has started and is moving along rapidly. Work on the building, which will be the new home of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, may be completed in early April.
