Cowpens Man Escapes Serious Injury in Motorcycle Accident Downtown

Daniel Prince

Van driver ran red light, causing motorcycle driver to lose control

A Cowpens man escaped serious injury in an accident that occurred Monday afternoon at the intersection of West South Street and South Pinckney Street. PSO Malik Brown responded to the scene and met with 18-year-old Garrett Kester of Cowpens and 60-year-old Michael Jackson of Union. Kester was traveling north on South Pinckney Street on a motorcycle, while Jackson was driving a van west on West South Street. Jackson told officers he ran a red light in the intersection, which caused Kester to lose control of the motorcycle and lay it down in the intersection. Kester sustained a slight injury to his hand and there was minor cosmetic damage to the motorcycle. Kester did not have proof of insurance on the motorcycle which was just purchased. Officers believed the motorcycle was most likely uninsured. Jackson was cited for running the traffic light, and Kester was cited for not having proof of insurance.
