Another event coming in October
The Cross Keys House will welcome visitors this weekend for “The Flight of Jefferson Davis”. This 158th anniversary reenactment and living history program will bring in reenactors from all over the region. Cathryn Smith, executive director of the Union County Museum, tells us what to expect when “The Flight of Jefferson Davis” makes its return to the Cross Keys House:

There is an admission charge to the event this year, as they are asking $5 per person. Children 10 and under are free. The event is open from 10-5 all three days. There will be a special Saturday Night Lantern Tour offered on Saturday, April 29, at 7 p.m. Cost will be $5 each or $10 for a group of up to five people.
Today is Students Day, though you don’t necessarily have to be a student to come out. Guest speaker Cora Newcomb will speak at 10:30 today on the history of the Cross Keys Plantation House, and President Jefferson Davis will give a speech at noon.
Saturday, Cora Newcomb will give her talk at 11 a.m. on the early moonshine industry in Pea Ridge. From 1-3, President Jefferson Davis will arrive and the skirmish demonstration will take place a short time later. On Sunday, Cora Newcomb will speak at 11 a.m. on Thaddeus Lowe’s hot air balloon landing in Unionville. Davis’s arrival and the skirmish demonstration will again take place from 1-3. Ongoing activities all weekend will include troop and civilian camps, blacksmithing, textile arts, militia drills, and more. Food and gift vendors will be on site all weekend, as well.
In October, the Historical Society will present the 2nd annual “Battle of Blackstock’s Farm” reenactment and living history event. It will be October 13-15 from 10-5. Admission will be $5 per person, with children 10 and under free.
