Small playground between B Street and Lybrand Street designated as safe viewing area
The Town of Jonesville has announced that the demolition of the smokestack on the site of the former Wellington Mill will take place this Friday at 10:30 a.m. Controlled Demolition, Inc., a global pyrotechnic company that drops buildings, will be dropping the smokestack. They will have a drone on site to gather footage, and it is expected to be a big event as the cleanup of the mill site nears its completion.
The small playground between B Street and Lybrand Street has been designated as a safe viewing area for the demolition. Residents of houses along B Street, A Street, and Lybrand Street are advised to watch from their porches or from inside their homes.
Hepaco is the company doing the cleanup work on site, which includes removing areas of asbestos, cleaning out vegetation, removing concrete pads and walls from the property, taking down and disposing of the smokestack, and grading and seeding the site. This is the first of a multi-phase project to turn the site into a park for community use.
