New District Teacher of the Year to be named at banquet tonight

Union County Schools District Teacher of the Year Katherine Prince was in Columbia last Wednesday for the annual State Teacher of the Year Gala. This year, the event was held on the grounds of the Governor’s Mansion. At the Gala at the Garden, as the event was called, the new South Carolina Teacher of the Year was announced. That honor went to Renee Atkinson, an English teacher at Aynor High School in Horry County. Governor Henry McMaster spoke at the event, where he touted the state’s economic progress and the need for quality educators to teach and train our future workforce:

Prince and all the other district teachers of the year were recognized and honored in the SC House of Representatives and the SC Senate.

The new Union County Schools District Teacher of the Year will be named at a special banquet tonight at Sunset Farm. Up for the honor is Heeley Wyatt from Buffalo Elementary; Heather Gregory from the Union County Career and Technology Center; Tiffany Clayton from Foster Park Elementary School; Latrisha Tucker from Monarch Elementary School; Cassie Bogan from Jonesville Elementary-Middle School; Brooke Anderson from Sims Middle School; and Jon Langenfeld from Union County High School. The Support Staff of the Year will be honored, as well. They are Alvin Jeter from Buffalo Elementary; Cathy Wood from Foster Park Elementary; Catherine Poulos from Jonesville Elementary-Middle; Jennifer Gibson from Monarch Elementary; Tiffany Iovane from Sims Middle; and Jennifer Calhoun from Union County High.
