SC Economic Developers Association honors Williams at its annual conference
The Union County Development Board released that Executive Director Dolton Williams was awarded the South Carolina Economic Developers Association’s Rising Star Award at the group’s annual conference on May 4. The Development Board stated that since Williams came back to the Development Board in April 2021 as its executive director, he has accomplished a number of goals important to Union County’s economic and community development strategy, including hiring a Deputy Director, developing a new strategic marketing and lead generation plan, and introducing a product development road map designed to expand Union County’s scope for constructing industrial buildings, sites, and parks. In addition, the organization says that Williams brings a fresh approach to focusing on existing industry retention - specifically workforce recruitment. In the short time that he has been back, Union County has announced $230 million in new industrial capital investment and 690 new jobs- including the announcement of Mycoworks, a California based, biotechnology company. Mycoworks will likely be a transformational catalyst in Union County over time with regards to boosting housing development, retail development, quality of life, and culture. Williams was recently accepted into SCEDA’s 2022-2023 Advanced Symposium class which, upon successful completion, he will receive the designation of South Carolina Certified Economic Developer (SCCED) - the highest level of economic development credential in the state of South Carolina.
