Donations Needed for School Supply Drive

Daniel Prince

Project is an extension of UCCRP's "It Takes a Village" theme

The Union County Community Remembrance Project is joining with USC Union and the L.W. Long Community Resource Center to collect school supplies to benefit the students at Foster Park Elementary School and other schools in the community, as well. This project, headed up by UCCRP intern Caden Jackson, who is also a student at USC Union, is an extension of the group’s “It Takes a Village” theme supporting education and life skills, which are both part of the UCCRP’s overall mission. They are calling for businesses and individuals to serve as sponsors for the Back-to-School Hot Dog Cookout and School Supply Drive, which will be held at the L.W. Long Community Resource Center on Saturday, July 23, from 6-8 p.m.

In-kind donations of food, tables, chairs, gift cards, and giveaways will receive mentions on social media and the online flyer. The black sponsorship level is $50 and grants donors mentions on social media, the flyer, and advertising prior to and on the day of the event. Gold sponsorship is $75, and it also includes mentions on WBCU and the UCCRP website. Find out more by calling Caden Jackson at 864-381-0946 or emailing cadenaj@email.sc.edu. All proceeds will go to the purchase of school supplies for students.

You can also donate school supplies directly. They need non-mechanical #2 pencils; 24-pack crayons; glue sticks; marble composition books in red, yellow, green, purple, or blue; pencil pouches; wide-rule notebook paper; plastic folders in red, blue, or green; 1 and 1-1/2-inch binders; round-tip scissors; highlighters; colored pencils; two-pocket folders; inexpensive earbuds or headphones; hand sanitizer; and backpacks. You can drop off school supply donations at the USC Union Main Building or bring them to the L.W. Long Resource Center the day of the event on July 23.

Sponsors include the Union County Community Remembrance Project, the L.W. Long Community Resource Center, USC Union, Gerber Kawasaki Wealth and Investment Management, Dollar Tree, We Go Ja Foundation, Friends on Main Bookstore, USC Union Research Club, Rental Space LLC, Salon Co-op, Walmart, and WBCU.
