The SC Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle fatal wreck that took place near Carlisle Thursday afternoon. The accident occurred around 12:42 p.m. on SC Highway 72 near Woodyard Road, 0.7 miles east of Carlisle. According to Master Trooper Gary Miller, the driver of a 2005 Toyota Camry was traveling east on Highway 72. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and struck a road sign. The driver then lost control of the vehicle, which traveled left across the median and across the left side of the road, striking a ditch and a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The Union County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the driver’s identity. There were no other people in the car, and no other cars were involved in the accident.
