Federal, state, and local offices are on the ballot
Months of campaigning come to an end today, as final decisions are in the hands of the voters. For all those who did not take advantage of early voting or absentee voting, today is Election Day. Polls are open in Union County from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you are unsure of your precinct or who is on your ballot, you can check your voter registration information online at www.scvotes.gov.
Contested statewide races are for governor, secretary of state, state treasurer, state superintendent of education, and commissioner of agriculture. National races on the ballot in Union County are for US Senate 2 and US House of Representatives District 5. House District 42 will list one candidate, Rep. Doug Gilliam, though Ann White has launched a write-in candidacy. Local contested races include County Supervisor, County Council District 1, County Council District 4, School Board District 4, School Board District 9, and City Council District 1. School Board District 5 will show Mark Truitt and Tommy Mann on the ballot, but Mann withdrew from the race as he has accepted the call to a church in Savannah, GA. He and his family moved there yesterday. Other races you may see will include the Soil and Water District Commission, Browns Creek Watershed Conservation District, and Fire District Commissioners for Jonesville, Monarch, Santuc, and Southside fire departments. In the Town of Carlisle, Ann Stevens and Radzil S. Thompson are running unopposed for reelection to the town council.
