Expected Heavy Rains From Tropical Storm Nicole Causes Veterans Day Parade Postponement

Daniel Prince

Veterans Day ceremony moved to National Guard Armory

Rains from tropical storm Nicole are expected to arrive in Union County Thursday afternoon and stick around in the area through Friday, with heavy rain and thunderstorms possible on Veterans Day. Because of that, the decision has been made to cancel the Veterans Day Parade on Friday. The ceremony will go on as planned; however, it will be moved indoors to the Union National Guard Armory. Before the ceremony begins, there will be music by the Sims Singers and the Union County High School Chorus. The ceremony will begin at 11 with prayer by Rev. Scott Cobb. The UCHS JROTC will present the colors. Cindy Fore will lead the national anthem. Gold Star Mother Lisa Bell and Gold Star Spouse Pamela Garner Sloss will be recognized, as will the Blue Star families of those currently serving. Local dignitaries will then be recognized, followed by the recognition of all the veterans service organizations in the county. All veterans will then be recognized. The high school chorus, Sims Singers, and Jantzen Childers will then sing. Paul Davis will then lead a special recognition of recipients of the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Army Combat Medical Badge, the Army Combat Action Badge, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Coast Guard’s Combat Action Ribbon, and the Air Force/Space Command Combat Action Medal. A wreath will be placed in memory of our war dead, followed by a recording of Taps. Rev. Gary Ward will close with prayer.
