Union County Fair Pageant, Motown & Soul Music show among the weekend's entertainment
When the gates close at 11 p.m. Saturday, this year’s edition of the Union County Fair will come to a close. Weather has been beautiful all week, with just a little light rain early Thursday to slightly dampen an otherwise perfect fair week, weather-wise. Today, the fair gates will be open from 4-11 p.m. Ride bands will be $25. The meat goat show is scheduled at 6 p.m. The Union County Fair Beauty Pageant is scheduled on the main fair stage from 4-8 p.m. TJ Jeter is also expected to entertain. The Horses, Horses, Horses attraction will have shows at 6, 8, and 10. Rosaire’s Pig Races will take place at 5:30, 7:30, and 9:30. Lew-E’s Comedy Circus will perform at 6:30 and 8:30. Fast Action Motor Sports will have RC car races at 6, 7, and 8:30, with a local celebrity race challenge at 10.
Gate admission is $8 for ages 13-62, and $6 for ages 2-12 and 62 and older. Toddlers under age 2 get in free. With Union County playing at home, there is likely to be more traffic and fewer parking spaces than normal, so be patient and allow extra time to get where you are going.
On Saturday, the fair closes with Hero’s Day and Motown Saturday Night. Health care workers, first responders, active military, active firefighters, police, and EMT workers will get in the gate free with their work IDs. All others pay regular gate admission. Gates will be open from noon until 11 p.m. Ride bands will be $25 and are good all day. Area 49 will entertain on the main fair stage, and Saturday night, there will be a Motown and Soul Music show, featuring tribute artist Dre Hilton. He will pay tribute to artists like James Brown, Little Richard, Ray Charles, and Chuck Berry, and will perform many other classic hits from Motown and soul artists. Horses, Horses, Horses will have shows at 3, 6, 8, and 10. Rosaire’s Pig Races will happen at 3:30, 5:30, 7:30, and 9:30. Lew-E’s Comedy Circus will perform at 2:30, 4:30, 6:30, and 8:30. Fast Action Motor Sports will have races at 2:30, 4, and 5:30, with a grand championship race at 7.
DHEC will be on site from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the main exhibit hall today and tomorrow offering the Pfizer COVID vaccine to anyone who wants it. It is approved right now for ages 12 and older.
