Driver was from Newberry County
The Union County Coroner’s Office issued a release Friday afternoon regarding the Thursday afternoon fatal wreck in Carlisle. The coroner’s office stated the victim in the wreck was a 53-year-old Newberry County man. An autopsy was scheduled at Newberry Pathology Group.
The SC Highway Patrol investigated the accident, which occurred Thursday around 12:42 p.m. on SC Highway 72 near Woodyard Road, 0.7 miles east of Carlisle. According to Master Trooper Gary Miller, the driver of a 2005 Toyota Camry was traveling east on Highway 72. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and struck a road sign. The driver then lost control of the vehicle, which traveled left across the median and across the left side of the road, striking a ditch and a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other people in the car, and no other cars were involved in the accident.
