Kenny Ivey, Elise Ashby, and John Glenn have announced intentions to run

The filing period for the Union County Council District 2 seat is now open. Filing will continue until noon this Friday. The special election has not yet been posted to the South Carolina Election Commission website, so we are unable to track official candidate filings online yet, but three people have indicated to WBCU News that they plan to run for the seat. Kenny Ivey, who with his wife Joye owns and operates Sanders Garden Center, has stated he will file to run as a Republican for the seat. Elise Ashby, who heads the RobinHood Group, which is over the Union County Farm and Craft Market, Union County FoodShare, and Farmers Market Flavors Ice Cream, has told WBCU News she will be a Democratic candidate for the seat. Carlisle Fire Chief John Glenn told WBCU News he will be running for the seat, as well. He is expected to file as a Democrat, as well. Both Ashby and Glenn have indicated they will release statements formally announcing their candidacy sometime this week. Party primaries will be held on Tuesday, June 13, with the special election scheduled for Tuesday, August 15. The winner will serve out Ralph Tucker’s unexpired term through 2024.
