Filing Period for School Board Special Election is Open

Kevin Brewington has filed to run for the late Frank M. Hart's seat

The filing period for the School Board District 6 special election is open. The winner of the election will fill the unexpired term of Frank M. Hart, who passed away on January 12. According to state law, the filing period opened the third Friday after the vacancy occurred and remains open for 10 days after. According to that timeline, the filing period closes this Friday at noon. The election then occurs on the 11th Tuesday after the vacancy occurs, which will be Tuesday, April 11. According to scvotes.org, one candidate has filed to run so far. Kevin Brewington, of New Hope Church Road in Jonesville, filed to run late last week.

There are two other upcoming elections in the county, as well. The Town of Lockhart will hold their Town Council election on Tuesday, March 7. Donnie Adams and Mandy Sweat have filed to run for another term in office.

A special election for a commissioner to the Jonesville Fire Board will take place on Tuesday, April 11. James E. “Jimmy” Wilkins has filed to run for that seat.
