Fire Destroys House on Whitmire Highway

Roger Bailey, Public Information Officer with the Southside Fire Department, reported the department battled a house fire. Bailey stated the call came in at 12:31 a.m. Monday. According to the initial report, someone was inside the structure, but when firefighters arrived on scene, they confirmed no one was inside. He stated Eric Morris owned the house at 2312 Whitmire Highway. The structure was fully involved when firefighters arrived. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. The house was declared a total loss, with damage estimated at $50,000. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The Santuc Fire Department, City of Union Fire Department, City of Union Utility Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office, and Union County EMS all responded to the scene. Firefighters remained on the scene until 4 a.m.
