Program targets pregnant women and those with small children up to age 3
Union County First Steps offers a free program called “Parents as Teachers”. The program is for pregnant women and those with small children up to age 3 who qualify. The program includes two one-hour home visits per month. The visits include activities, screenings, assessments, free books, and resources to prepare your child to enter school ready to learn. Those early years are the most important for brain development. At each visit, the child will receive a free book and free diapers and household supplies when they are available.
To sign up, you can call Union County First Steps at 426-2519 and leave a message with your name and number. You can also visit their new page on Facebook. Look up UC First Steps, and you can find the link to the form to fill out. If you qualify for the program, a supervisor will contact you about how to enroll.
