Total of 19 break-ins have been reported in January
Four more vehicle break-ins have been reported to the Union Public Safety Department, bringing the total up to 19 so far this month. The first was reported to Public Safety on Friday morning. An employee of Arthur State Bank on Main Street noticed that one of the vehicles registered to the bank had been broken into and its contents disturbed. The woman said that the owners’ manual, registration card, and insurance card were taken from the glove box. According to the police report, the incident is believed to have occurred between 8 p.m. last Tuesday night and 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.
A man walked into Public Safety headquarters Friday morning to report another vehicle break-in. The man told Sgt. Scott Hood that he had gone to the Goodwill store Thursday afternoon and thought he had locked his vehicle, but he said the key fob must not have locked it. He stated that when he returned to his vehicle after going into the store, he saw that someone had stolen his Apple tablet and case. He had received the tablet as a gift from his granddaughter. He stated the tablet is black with a black case and requires a five-digit number to unlock. The tablet was valued at $900.
The third case was reported to officers Friday afternoon. The incident occurred on South Mountain Street sometime between 11 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 a.m. Friday. The woman at the residence said that someone had been into her Dodge van and her PT Cruiser and taken things from both vehicles. She said she had about $30 in change, a mace canister, a house key, a selfie stick, flash light, and tire changing tool taken from the van. She said around $10 in change was taken from her PT Cruiser.
All these cases have been turned over to investigations.
