Paid leave made available for birth, fostering, and adoption of children
Thanks to a new state law signed last week by Governor Henry McMaster, state employees will be provided with up to six weeks of paid family leave for the birth of a child, adoption of a child, or fostering a child. With the birth of a child, the employee who gives birth will be provided 6 weeks of paid leave, while an employee who does not give birth but is a new parent will be provided 2 weeks of paid leave. For the adoption of a child, state employees who are the primary caregivers of the child will receive 6 weeks of paid leave, while an employee who is not primarily responsible for the care of the child will receive 2 weeks of paid leave. For state employees who foster a child, they will be provided with two weeks of paid leave. The law goes into effect on October 1st.
