Hero's Parade Welcomes William Erwin Home for Final Time

Funeral set for Tuesday

A hero’s parade was held Saturday morning, as numerous law enforcement, fire department, and EMS personnel escorted the body of William Erwin home. Erwin, age 39, passed away Wednesday, December 1, at Atrium Health in Shelby, NC.

Erwin was Chairman of the Board for the Union County Rescue Squad for over 10 years, was a member of Search and Rescue for the Union County Sheriff’s Office and was a member of the Lockhart and Monarch Volunteer Fire Departments.

Visitation for Erwin will be held at Lockhart Freewill Baptist Church tonight from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Lockhart Freewill Baptist Church, with Pastor Sam Baines officiating. Burial will follow at Lockhart Cemetery. Pallbearers will include representatives from Monarch Fire Department, Lockhart Fire Department, City of Chester Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office, and Union County Fire and Rescue.
