Daniel Prince

Silvey has taught 18 years, including six at Foster Park

Foster Park Elementary School named Jessica Silvey as its September Teacher of the Month.

Silvey is currently in her 18th year of teaching and her 6th year at FPES. She is a graduate of Lander University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. Silvey then attended Grand Canyon University, where she completed a Master of Education Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Technology. She serves FPES in many ways: by being the 1st Grade Chair, serving on the Parent Involvement Committee, and the Yearbook Committee. Silvey is also an active member of the Palmetto State Teacher’s Association (PSTA) and the Union County DKG Sorority.

Silvey’s co-workers describe her in the following ways:

"She goes the extra mile for her students and has been extremely supportive and helpful to her grade level team. I couldn't have survived the start of the year without her!"

"I love her willingness to help those of us who are new. The students I have who had her last year have such a good foundation of learning from her!"

"She wants to help everyone."

"She is dedicated to her students. She wants to make sure every child in her room feels safe, smart, and supported!"

When asked about her favorite thing about teaching, Silvey said, “I love being able to share my love of learning with my students. It is so exciting to see how much they can and want to learn about new things. I love watching them gain independence, find their voice, help others, and grow academically throughout the year. I am blessed to be with them.”

Other than teaching, Silvey loves cooking, traveling, reading, and spending time with her family. She is married to Shane, her husband for over 11 years. They have one son named Lucas, who is in 4th Grade at Foster Park. Their family attends Mount Joy Baptist Church.
