Jonesville Police Department's new vehicles will come in soon
In other news from the Jonesville Town Council meeting, Jonesville Police Chief Carl Jennings told council that the three vehicles his department ordered will be coming in at the end of November and first of December. They have an open officer position that they have posted. Jennings also asked for prayer for the family of a young person who committed suicide late last week.
In his water and sewer update, Town Administrator Michael Tyler said he hoped they would be able to get someone into the Belk building early next year to boost water sales. Belk still has a presence in the building, but water sales have dropped substantially. He noted that a 20’ trailer the town bought last year is not long enough to haul the town’s front-end loader properly. He said he approached the company he bought it from about a trade, and he was quoted a price of $6590 for a 24’ trailer, and they would give $3000 in trade for the 20’ trailer. Tyler said there is a possible avenue for reimbursement of around $2000 through an organization, and if that comes through, the final cost to the town would be $1590. Council member Preston Bennett told Tyler he would check with the company he hauls for and see if they would beat the price. Tyler also said the town needs a shed to store the trailer and front-end loader. He said he had put $5000 in the budget for a shed, and he was quoted a price of $3938 including installation of a 24x30 unit.
Tyler said the town will need to monitor fuel prices and its fleet of trucks to find ways to conserve fuel, including possibly purchasing smaller trucks later on.
He also said the town will need to adjust its sewer connection fees and tap rates. He said the town basically breaks even on water connections, but they lose money on the sewer side. He said the City of Union and Spartanburg Water have gone up on their fees, and he hoped to bring a recommendation to council soon. He also said the town will need to reorganize its services under the blanket of Public Works in order to start online billpay services. He said the move will require an ordinance placing the street department under the water and sewer department and renaming them all Public Works.
