Lance Davis Hired as City Utilities Director

Daniel Prince

City has three open positions

City Clerk and HR Director Gloria Rogers attended the SMIRF and SCMIT annual members’ meeting in early November in Columbia. As reported in the November City Council meeting, Rogers accepted the SC Municipal Insurance Trust Risk Management Services Award. The award was an engraved plaque and a $2500 monetary award. The city also received a $2000 SCMIT COVID-19 Safety Grant for safety equipment in November.

During the month of November, the city filled its vacant Utility Director position. Lance Davis was hired to fill that position. Davis received his degree in Civil Engineering from Clemson University in 2004. He has served as project engineer with S&ME, Inc. in Spartanburg, QC Civil Lab Supervisor and Lab PE with CB&I in Jenkinsville, QC Civil Laboratory with Fluor Corporation, and most recently served as Construction Manager with KCI Technologies, Inc., in Gaffney.

In addition to that job, the city filled two HEO positions in the water and sewer department. The city reported three open positions: the Fleet Mechanic I position is still being advertised and will be advertised until filled. There is a vacancy for a Wastewater Plant Supervisor in-house. The Public Safety Department has a School Resource Officer vacancy, as well.
