Left lane can turn or go straight; right lane is turn only
Those traveling west on Main Street from First Baptist and USC Union going toward the courthouse may have noticed a change to the traffic pattern. DOT crews made changes to the intersection of Main Street and Church Street. Previously, the left lane was a turn lane, and the right lane was for going straight or turning right. That forced a bit of a dogleg, as drivers would be shifting to the left as they headed through the intersection to avoid the parking area on the side of Main Street. The newly repainted intersection now has the right lane as a right-turn-only lane, while the left lane is for going straight and for left turns. This will give drivers a straight shot down Main Street without having to essentially shift lanes in the intersection. A sign with flags was posted just inside the fence at USC Union, and the newly painted lines make it clear that the right lane is turn-only. Motorists are asked to take extra care at that intersection until travelers get used to the change.
