Library's Community Pantry in Need of Donations

Friends of Library holding "soup for books swap" at bookstore

The Union County Library System operates a Community Pantry at the library. According to Rebecca Rochester with the Friends of the Union County Carnegie Library, the pantry serves nearly 200 patrons every month. The pantry, while free to those in need, does not come without cost.

According to a recent cost breakdown by the library, it costs $240 a week, or $960 a month, to operate. If you would like to donate to the pantry, bring perishable, nonperishable, and hygiene products to the library during regular business hours, Monday through Thursday from 8:30-6, except for being closed for lunch from 12-1, and Friday from 9-3. While they have a refrigerator, they do not have a freezer, so please do not donate frozen items. You can also make a monetary contribution for the pantry at the library.

The Friends of the Union County Carnegie Library are doing their part to support the pantry. They are hosting a soup for books swap at the Friends of the Library Bookstore, located across from the courthouse at 213 West Main Street. They are open Thursdays and Fridays from 10-2. All soup collected will be given to the library for the Community Pantry.
