Track reading and activities online through Beanstack app
Summer Reading kicks off at the Union County Library System today. Register for summer reading at unionlibrary.beanstack.org, or download the Beanstack app on your phone to keep track of your reading and activities over the summer. You will receive a lanyard after registering, with a different color depending on the age of the person signing up. You will have the opportunity to earn 17 different badges throughout the summer, including a sign-up badge, reading badges, weekly activity badges, and performer badges. Earn 10 badges to receive the completion badge. For every badge earned through Beanstack, you will receive a physical button of the badge to add to your lanyard. Pick up your lanyards and a treasure chest bag full of weekly activities at the library this Tuesday or Thursday, June 7 or 9, from 3-6 p.m. Get a free treat from Kona Ice from 4-5 p.m. those days when you sign up.
Activities this summer will include weekly videos, which will be posted on the library’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, and the weekly storytime for ages birth to 4, each Tuesday at 10 a.m. In addition, the library will bring back their popular Movies Under the Stars program, the first of which will be on June 13, when they will show Encanto. They will host a weekly craft series on Tuesdays from 4-6 p.m., starting tomorrow with the theme, Ahoy Matey! They will have one craft event for adults in July, making your own eco-friendly cleaning products. They will have four in-person performers this year: Talewise, Roper Mountain Science Center, South Carolina Aquarium, and Bright Star Theatre. A new activity this year is Fintastic Fridays, which will feature outdoor fun and games. They say to be prepared to get wet.
Summer reading at the library is sponsored by the South Carolina State Library, Friends of the Union County Carnegie Library, Bantam Chef, and Lockhart Power.
